We first find Alex on the 1870 U.S. Census enumerated as a member Tobe's household. The 1900 census listed Alex as "Elllie" living in Walker Precinct 16, Corona-Deer Creek. Alex is listed on the 1870, 1880, 1900, and the 1920 censuses. The 1920 census shows Alex Shepherd, Mulatto, age 62, living in Oakman, with his then 47 -yearold wife, Annie.
The 1880 census indicates that Sarah Elizabeth was a 17 year old living at home with her parents, Samuel and Lucy Powell.
